Cell Design Engineer – Sodium-ion Batteries

You will join a fairly new effort and thus a small but dedicated team which will grow with the progress of this project. This role gives you the opportunity to be part of an exciting new project from the beginning and allows you to grow and take on additional responsibility fast. The team includes cell design engineers, material engineers, supply chain experts and technical project managers, however, this project requires cross-functional contribution across the entire organization which will be one of the main responsibilities of this role. In this position, you will join a passionate team that is driven by creating an even more sustainable product which will make a significant impact for Northvolt and the transition towards a greener future.Key responsibilities include but are not limited toDevelop and execute experiments on lab and pilot line scale to improve the sodium-ion cell productCreate root cause analyses of product issues and create solutions that improve the overall productIntroduce and evaluate materials for performance improvementPresent product design changes that match or improve manufacturing and equipment capabilities * Design experiments and tests to ensure that the Cell Specifications match Cell Requirements
- Understand process, equipment, and materials when designing for manufacturability

- A degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or similar
- Excellent English written and oral skills
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
- Highly organized and result-driven
- People-person and ability to build strong relationships
- Ability to drive work independently and in a team environment to deliver results
- Can-do attitude and “not afraid to get hands dirty”
- Experience with new battery chemistries and designs
- Experience in both R&D and high volume manufacturing environments
- Fluency in other languages (Japanese, Swedish, Chinese, French)
- Experience from a multi-cultural environment
