Project Overview:
This EPC project aims to construct a new cement plant in Belgium, focusing on decarbonization through cutting-edge carbon capture and storage technologies. Scheduled to finish by 2028, it will capture about 1.1 million tonnes of CO2 annually, advancing towards carbon neutrality. In addition to its technological advancements, this pivotal project also includes significant infrastructure developments, such as railway connections for transporting limestone from Vaulx (Tournai) to Obourg, representing an investment of up to 50 million euros.Role Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical aspects of the Quarry package of the project. The role includes strategic oversight throughout the study and realization phases, focusing on integrating mechanical components with environmental sustainability goals.Key Responsibilities :
During the Study Phase:
  • Validate supplier designs for the Vaulx site.
  • Oversee the preparation of technical drawings, purchase requests, and order forms while supervising the procurement and construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with engineers across various disciplines to ensure seamless information flow and adherence to project requirements.
During the Realization Phase:
  • Manage on-site decisions at Vaulx with a strict zero-accident target.
  • Ensure qualitative contract fulfilment and participate in equipment performance tests.
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of key mechanical systems, including a 2.5 km long curved conveyor belt, crushers, and conveyor systems, ensuring they meet operational standards and environmental regulations.
Qualifications :
  • More than 10 years of mechanical engineering experience, specifically in mechanical maintenance or project management within the mining or quarrying industries.
  • Proven track record in overseeing mechanical aspects of large-scale mineral extraction and processing projects.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of European directives and compliance with local and international engineering standards.
  • Fluent in French and English with excellent communication, coordination, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to identify problems, devise suitable solutions, and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Effective communicator within and across team boundaries.
Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals and other related engineering disciplines such as piping, electrical, instrumentation, and civil engineering.
  • Proficient with mechanical transport systems like belt conveyors, stackers/reclaimers, crushers, and associated peripheral devices.
  • Familiarity with rotary equipment and machine assemblies.
