The OpportunityMonash University, in Melbourne Australia, is seeking outstanding candidates for two postdoctoral research fellowship positions in the School of Physics and Astronomy. These two positions offer an exceptional opportunity to conduct high quality research in the development and/or application of new transmission electron microscopy methods (STEM and/or TEM) to solve important problems in condensed matter physics and materials science. They will exploit aberration-corrected FEG-TEMs with tailored electron-optics and pixelated, single electron detector systems operating in customised modes to deliver new information about key material systems. See Level A and Level B position descriptions for full details. These research fellowships will be part of a diverse, international research group led by Professor Joanne Etheridge and will enjoy a creative and collaborative environment for the development and application of electron microscopy methods, and, more broadly, in the physics of imaging and materials science. The positions will utilise instruments in the Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy which has a powerful suite of instrumentation, including the Thermo Scientific Spectra-ϕ, a next generation S/TEM with outstanding spatial and energy resolution, multiple fast pixelated detectors and unique electron-optical elements to optimise performance in S/TEM. It is located on the Clayton Campus in a dedicated electron microscopy building, specifically designed to provide exceptional mechanical, thermal and electro-magnetic stability to optimise instrument performance. The positions are open to both theoretical physicists and experimental electron microscopists. The successful applicants will have advanced understanding and knowledge in the theory and application of S/TEM and a PhD or equivalent qualification and will possess sound interpersonal skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash.
