- Plan, organize, and facilitate English Language as an instructional programme that are aligned with both the National and Cambridge curricula and meets the standards of the school.
- Develop and deliver scheme of work and lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies that caters for the unique needs, abilities and varied learning styles of students
- Provide necessary supervision to students using the appropriate class management and organisational skills.
- Organize class time as per the instructional plans and address discipline issues as a mentor and/or instructor
- Instruct students on proper use of equipment, materials, aids and textbooks.
- Maintain inventory of instructional materials, aids and equipment in the class
- Use patience and conflict resolution skills to create and maintain classroom harmony and a conducive environment where students can develop wholistically.
- Monitor the performance and progress of each student and provide academic counselling where necessary and take corrective measures to enhance student learning abilities
- Develop, implement and monitor effective schemes of work, course delivery, assessments, pupil surveys and pupil data in line with school policy
- Administer academic assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in knowledge acquisition.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behaviour required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment.
- Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during in-school and outside school events where necessary
- Identify and discuss students’ academic and pastoral needs with principal/academic team/student relations to find a way to help students
- Build rapport with students using interpersonal communication skills
- Prepare and mark examination papers and assignments
- Analyse and evaluate student’s progress periodically based on results of assignments, quizzes, and tests
- Attend team meetings, staff development trainings and workshops
- Support scheduled school holistic activities when directed to do so
- Oversee and advise the assigned non-academic / Co-curricular activities
- Collaborate with the team in curriculum development, appraisal system, and project management.
- Responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of pupils and for raising any concerns in line with School procedures.
- Participate in all co-curricular and non-curricular activities that enhances the growth of the school
- Remain up to date with national trends in education and in English Language and implement developments in curriculum design and delivery to reflect these.
- Prepare students towards the national and international examination/testing systems such as IELTS, IGCSE check point
- Perform any other tasks as may be assigned on an ad-hoc basis as needed
- Perform other related legal duties as assigned.
- University Degree (Bachelor’s or Masters) in English Language Education or its equivalent.
- Should have at least three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in both Cambridge IGCSE and GES Curricula.
- Teaching certification/license holder preferred
- Candidates with IELTS/TOEFL certificate preferred
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
- Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
- Experience in preparing students for international examinations such as IELTS/TOEFL and IGCSE check point
- An ICT qualification and strong knowledge/usage with MS. Suite (word, Excel, Power Point)
- Ability to implement teaching practices in accordance with educational policies relative to English language
- Knowledge of the Cambridge / British Curriculum and its applicable pedagogies
- Ability to create project-based learning activities relative to both the National and Cambridge Curriculum.
- Deep understanding of the National Curriculum and English language Education requirements
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Eloquence in the English Language and ability to adequately guide students express themselves in the English Language.
- Should be able to teach other subjects in the humanities (Social studies/ RE)
- Ability to plan, direct, control, and coordinate student’s learning activities.
- Ability to cooperatively plan and team teach
- Ability to monitor the progress of students learning performance and adopt remedial strategies
- Ability to Integrate educational competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans
- Ability to manage students’ behaviours in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures
- Friendly and approachable
- Ability to listen to the ideas and views of others
- Ability to handle conflicts, confrontation and other delicate interpersonal situations
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
