Lecturer in Civil Engineering, Specific Purpose Contract, Full time, Contract Type BApplications are invited for a full-time contract Lecturer in Civil Engineering at University of Galway. The University of Galway seeks to appoint a world-class individual in the area of Sustainability and Innovation in Civil Engineering and Construction to capitalise on and strengthen University of Galway's international position in this thematic area. There are many exciting opportunities to foster the application of disruptive and smart technologies that will result in improved sustainability of our infrastructure and buildings (for example, carbon neutral building materials, novel digitalised construction technologies, transport, water infrastructure, etc.) with low or even net-zero carbon emissions and facilitate climate change adaptation and resilience.The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, student project supervision, and programme administration across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Civil Engineering and the School of Engineering. In recent years, the School of Engineering at University of Galway have developed a suite of postgraduate courses in construction innovation, equipping learners with key knowledge and skills in innovation, digital adoption, sustainability and modern methods of construction. These courses, which are primarily targeted at those working full-time in industry, range from micro-credentials, postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma and MSc in Construction Innovation, as well as the Construct Innovate work-ready graduate programme. These programmes aims to equip students with key knowledge and skills needed to develop sustainable technological solutions to the challenges facing the construction and built environment sector in Ireland and elsewhere. The successful candidate will take a leadership role in designing and delivering postgraduate degree programmes in construction innovation and will be required to teach via hybrid means to those in employment. The appointee must be available at least one evening per week (6-9pm) to deliver online content to students and two Saturdays per semester to deliver in-person workshops.The appointee will be expected to work with colleagues across the relevant academic disciplines and research institutes of the university and contribute to the excellent research capacity in Civil Engineering, which has active clusters in construction, environmental engineering, structural and offshore engineering, transport, geotechnical engineering etc. Of particular relevance to these positions is Construct Innovate, Ireland's national research centre for construction technology and innovation, which has over 60 construction companies as collaborators and is led by researchers from the School of Engineering at the University of Galway. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for major funding awards, for example from Science Foundation Ireland and Horizon Europe, and will develop national and international collaborations with academia and industry. The new appointee will be expected to disseminate their work through high quality peer-reviewed journals, high-impact conferences, and workshops.The successful candidate shall possess:

Primary degree and PhD qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or closely related engineering/construction disciplines
Experience in third level teaching and the ability to deliver modules at undergraduate and graduate levels including on the new postgraduate degrees in construction innovation
A commitment to contribute to the development and management of postgraduate taught programmes
A background in modern methods in civil engineering and construction including building information management, project management and modern methods of construction
A background in the application of sustainable design and digital technologies to areas such as construction, transportation and other civil engineering disciplines
An appropriate portfolio of high-quality peer-reviewed publications
An established research funding record and the ability to lead collaborative research proposals
A strong commitment to working with colleagues within existing, established research centres and groups, and a willingness and ability to develop and lead new research activity and research groupings
An ability and willingness to conduct programme administration and management in a public service university environment
An ability to take leadership roles in delivering new programmes, such as the postgraduate degree programmes in construction innovation
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, and an ability and commitment to develop collaborative relationships with other academic staff in the pursuit of teaching and research objectives of the University of Galway
A strong commitment to working with the Engineering (and closely related) industry, particularly in terms of collaborative research.

This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy
