Offer DescriptionApplications are invited from recent B.Sc. graduates or soon-to-be graduates wishing to carry out M.Sc. research in the area of chemical biology and medicinal chemistry. The SFI-funded project, which will be carried out in the research group of Dr. Eddie Myers at the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, University of Galway, will involve the design, synthesis and biophysical study of a novel family of peptide-based covalent inhibitors of cathepsins, which are proteases implicated in cancer, viral infection and bone disease.Available funding includes fees (€5,500 p.a. for EU/UK applicants) and a stipend (€22,000 p.a.) for a period of one year. Assistance and support will be provided to successful candidates who would like to subsequently apply for competitive local, national and international scholarships to enable transfer into and continue research towards a Ph.D. programme.
