- Permanent position located in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne or Sydney
- Provide strategic advice, guidance and recommendations to the Head of External Communications and senior leaders on all matters relating to media engagement, strategies and plans, and appropriate messaging.
- Lead a busy and high-performing team responsible for proactively building understanding of ASIC, its people and its work, and responding to news and media queries that affect the organisation.
- Collaborate across the Communications and Corporate Affairs Group, including to amplify ASIC's external communications engagement through speeches and events, corporate reports, and other campaigns.
- Support the Commission, Chief Executive Officer and other ASIC senior leaders to engage with the media and other external stakeholders.
- Ensure news and issues are shared with relevant internal stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Bring a storytelling and campaign mindset to communications, with the ability to identify issues and opportunities for ASIC to improve its overall storytelling.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with key media and external and internal stakeholders in support of ASIC's corporate positioning and strategic priorities.
- Ensure the effective governance and coordination of communication initiatives and projects, align to best practice approaches.
- Monitor and evaluate the success of communication activities and identify areas for improvements.
- Degree in communications or other relevant discipline with at least 10 years' experience.
- Proven expertise in media relations as well as the planning, production, and distribution of complex and technical content to external audiences across various platforms.
- Strong relationships with relevant Australian journalists and media commentators, ideally in news media, business and financial services.
- Issues and crisis management experience working across large and complex organisations.
- Experience mentoring direct reports and developing their skills.
- Experience developing internal policies, processes, and procedures.
- Excellent relationship management skills, including experience influencing and advising senior executives and technical experts.
- Strong project management skills and experience.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects and display sound judgment.
