- Serves as a permanent charge nurse to maintain continuity of patient care between shifts and from day-to-day.
- · Maintains clinical visibility and presence to support patients, caregivers, and nursing staff.
- · Serves as an extension of inpatient nursing administration, adhering to established policies, procedures, and standards of care when formulating decisions.
- · Oversees all patient care activities and serves as a resource for patients requiring complex medical care.
- · Functions as a liaison between other disciplines and nursing staff.
- · Frequently monitors the continuum of care to ensure timely discharge by tracking completion of discharge education and maintaining regular communication with interdisciplinary team members.
- · Advocates for patients and patients’ families.
- · Participates in department and Institute-wide quality improvement programs.
