Offer DescriptionIn various applications, from pollution monitoring to medical treatment, the systematic measurement of ions holds significant importance. Despite the availability of operational devices, developing affordable, portable, and accurate tools for measuring ions in solutions has proven challenging due to limitations in versatility and durability. In this context, promising proof of concepts of alternative devices, not reliant on selective layers have been shown [R. Sivakumarasamy et al. Nat.Mat. 17, 464 (2018)]. In this project, through precise control of nano-transistors interface properties and microfluidics, we aim to bring this approach to a stage where practical applications can be realized. The final objective is to demonstrate the capability of monitoring hyponatremia in blood with a high precision level, that can represent a significant step toward enhancing domiciliary medicine for cirrhosis patients in the future.
The postdoctoral fellow will lead the development, fabrication, and characterization of nanotransistors featuring various oxide surfaces, stress conditions, and geometries to investigate ion-specific interactions. One goal is to establish a direct correlation between the fabrication and design of nanotransistors and their detection capabilities. Another objective is to demonstrate the feasibility of selectively measuring Na+ in blood serum using a nanotransistor without a selective layer.- Development and fabrication of nanotransistors incorporating various process and geometries.
- Structural characterization using SEM and FIB, as well as electrical characterization under both dry and wet conditions.
- Integration of sensing devices with microfluidics for proof-of-concept demonstrations. With a large number of permanent researchers, engineers and PhD students as well as strong interactions with industry, the LAAS-CNRS is situated at the crossing between scientific research, innovation and applications. The LAAS-CNRS possesses one of the most important technological installations dedicated to research, with an ultra-modern cleanroom of 1600m². The project will benefit furthermore from the novel chemistry and biology (microfluidic, blood experiments). The project will mainly be carried out in the host laboratory in Toulouse, and also the post-doc will work in a very stimulating context of international research. Numerous exchanges and interactions with the project partners (France and Japan) will stimulate the multidisciplinary research.RequirementsResearch Field Engineering Education Level PhD or equivalentResearch Field Physics Education Level PhD or equivalentResearch Field Technology Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level BasicResearch Field Engineering Years of Research Experience 1 - 4Research Field Physics Years of Research Experience 1 - 4Research Field Technology Years of Research Experience 1 - 4Additional InformationEligibility criteria- The candidate must be a recent PhD graduate (within the last three years) in nanotechnology, applied physics or bioelectronics.
