Reports to: Manager, Smart Building ServicesBased at: Branch Office (Calgary, Vancouver or Toronto with remote option available)Position Purpose: Provide data analytics (SQL , Python PowerBI or Tableau), building systems design and operation in a very active and fluid environment. Working closely with the Project team, you will assist on various projects, and contribute to the technical competence and production requirements. We are looking for an individual that share our company vision and can function independently, provide exceptional customer service and coordinate with internal and external project partners.Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Work with the Project team in providing our clients with finished projects in a timely manner.
  • Research and develop feasibility studies for thermal comfort, reliability and energy conservation opportunities.
  • Become familiar with building retro-commissioning and control system operation, issues resolution, and optimization.
  • Become familiar with working with data analytics programs (including Excel, SQL, Python Power BI, and Tableau) to diagnose anomalies and identify issues and opportunities,
  • Use software, including but not limited to Microsoft Power BI and Tableau, to develop visualizations to present results of analysis.
  • Become familiar with data system protocols, data extraction and historization.
  • Under supervision, review and interpret engineering design drawings, specifications and/or recommendations, prepared by others, for a variety of the following:
  • HVAC design
  • Building control systems
  • Energy analysis and metering systems
  • Hydronic piping
  • Mechanical design details
  • Equipment selection and specification
  • Sustainable design
  • Fuel systems
  • Develop and maintain standards and guidelines for mechanical systems and data analytics for clients.
  • Communicate effectively with the Project Manager; this includes collecting and coordinating useful information.
  • Maintain a working relationship with other staff.
  • Gain an understanding of quality control.
  • Conduct site evaluations and inspections with the support of senior staff.
  • Under supervision write basic field inspections and technical reports.
  • Participate in facility evaluations and assist in technical report writing.
  • Actively perpetuate and embody DB Technologies culture and values.
  • Employees are required to adhere to the company and client safety policies and practices in effect at any given time.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 1 to 5 years’ experience
  • Registered Engineer-in-Training
  • May hold P.Eng. designation

  • Build and understanding of the construction, commissioning and retro-commissioning processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style.
  • Professional attitude and a commitment to high quality work.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the company to the staff, clients and community by ensuring the best image is presented.
  • Build an understanding of engineering calculations with accurate, clear design notes.
  • Understand HVAC design criteria.
  • Understand local, provincial and national codes, regulations and guidelines affecting design and construction.
  • Understand the process for tracking correspondence and work method preparation.
  • Able to interpret basic multi-disciplinary drawings, basic plan and profile drawings.
  • Self-starter and strong desire to exceed
  • Understand the ethical application of technical work.
