In the coming decades, steel production will deeply transform, moving to a generalized usage of DRI and scraps in the early steps of the metallurgical routes for the production of liquid steel.Your roleAs a Research Engineer in the Steelmaking department of ArcelorMittal R&D, you will directly be involved in this transformation by leading studies and giving support to the plants to tackle the challenges created by the new processes involved (metallurgy, productivity, quality,...) and propose evolution and optimization of the production practices.You will:
  • Participate in R&D projects for the development of new or optimized processes in ArcelorMittal industrial plants. This will include the deployment of new industrial tools to ensure that steel grades produced on new routes display the same quality and properties as those produced until now, with a focus on secondary metallurgy (management of residual elements, understanding and improvement of process operations,...).
  • Work closely with ArcelorMittal industrial plants with frequent business trips to provide expertise for technical assistance (e.g. solve quality or process issues), or to contribute to the deployment of in-house process models.
  • Design, organize and analyze process trials from lab to industrial scale, including 6t pilot scale in Maizières facilities.
  • Interact with the whole ArcelorMittal community: Global R&D specialists and technicians, plant experts, corporate teams, etc. and develop collaborative research with external partners (academic laboratories, technical centres, suppliers).
Your profile
  • You hold a Master's degree in Engineering.
  • A first experience would be appreciated in the field of steelmaking, process or chemical engineering, metallurgy/secondary metallurgy, process support or operation (the position is also opened to senior profiles in these fields).
  • You are advanced in English and intermediate in French.
  • You have a solid scientific background: material science (metallurgy if possible), thermodynamic, process engineering.
  • Some knowledge in coding languages is an asset.
  • You have excellent social skills to work in project teams within a multi-cultural environment and different factories.
  • You are able to travel worldwide.
