Offer DescriptionThe Department of Regional Geography and Regional Development of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University Bratislava offers places for PhD studies in regional geography. Candidates can choose from a wide range of dissertation topics under the supervision of renowned experts. The topics cover a wide range of research on the transformations and development of different types of regions or their individual components, from settlement and land use to the individual components of the regions' infrastructure, trade, services, or population mobility in the regional system. A significant part of the topics is oriented towards partial research on the process of suburbanisation.For the academic year 2024/2025, the following topics are offered:- Analysis of the impact of political-geographical changes on the development of national minorities in a selected part of Central Europe- Spatio-temporal behaviour of inhabitants of suburban localities in the Bratislava metropolitan region- Daily rhythm of retail and consumer shopping behaviour- Historical-geographical transformations of socio-economic structures of the original suburban and peri-urban zones of the city from the pre-industrial to the post-industrial era on the example of a selected city- Methods of attractiveness assessment, their application in the selected region and their use in practice- Resilient retail and sustainable consumption: the impact of crises on current retail trends and consumer behaviour- Consumer 'food nationalism' in Slovakia: from global to local food- Suburb or village? Spatial configurations of suburban space in Slovakia- Residential mobility and residential preferences of the inhabitants of the Bratislava metropolitan region- The network of kindergartens and primary schools in rural areas of Slovakia: challenges and solutions- Utilisation of mobile network location data in spatial analysesThe study and elaboration of the dissertation are primarily assumed to be in the Slovak language, but part of the topics can also be completed in English.
