Offer DescriptionThe LULI laboratory has developed for several years external magnetic field generation platforms around power lasers up to 40T in large volumes. The recruited person will join the PHYHDEL team (as part of the ANR HEAP HOP) and will be in charge of experiments on magnetised plasmas carried out on the various LULI2000 installations or other external installations, scheduled for March 2025.The tasks of the recruited person will be:
  • Supervise magnetized laser plasma experiments
  • Analyze experimental campaigns
  • Develop adapted numerical simulations with the FLASH code
  • Write the associated articles
In the LULI laboratory, we have two large laser installations: LULI2000 and Apollo on which are carried out on large -scale experiments to meet astrophysical challenges. In addition, we have developed a platform with an external high-back magnetic field capable of providing 30T (60t in the near future) in a large volume (1 cm3). The coupling between the high-power laser and the external field B opens a new domain in laboratory astrophysics: magnetized plasmas. Our post-doctorate position is in this context to tackle one of the most energetic phenomena in the universe: the explosion of stars. Several questions concerning the interaction of the SNR with the surrounded environments (circumstellar medium, other SNR, molecular clouds and magnetic fields (b) remain unresolved. In particular, how does Champ B affect the propagation of the SNR in the ISM?Post-Doc post, the candidate will have to resolve one of these questions by carrying out several experiences based on scale experiments (planned on LULI2000 and OMEGA) to answer the questions raised above. He/her will actively participate to the development of the first platform making it possible to couple an XFEL, a high power laser and an external magnetic field in SACLA in Japan. In parallel, he/she will make digital simulations using the Flash code (2D/3D Radiative Code MHD) available in our group to design and interpret experimental results. If necessary, the applicant will improve the existing models implemented in Flash and use them to execute a large -scale astrophysical simulation which can be directly compared to astronomical observations. The position will take place in the LULI laboratory at the École PolytechniqueRequirementsResearch Field Physics Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level BasicResearch Field Physics Years of Research Experience NoneAdditional InformationEligibility criteriaThe following skills are requested:- Experience in physics of high energy densities.
