Offer DescriptionCarry out research activities and developing techniques to produce high-quality actinide targets for nuclear physics experiments conducted at GANIL- Join the preliminary design team of the new laboratory for the preparation of radioactive samples at GANIL with the final goal to deliver actinide samples used as targets for experiments to be performed at NFS (Neutrons For Science) or S3 (Super Séparateur Spectromètre)
- Conduct research activities and develop techniques for the preparation, production and characterization of actinides targets, meeting the specifications requested for NFS or S3
- Set-up optimized and reproducible protocols of purification, preparation and characterization of produced targets
- Present results of technical development and methods, target analysis and performance in workshops, conferences, and various meetings related to targets or research programs. The Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds is a national research infrastructure based on the use of ion beams. Its fields of fundamental research are nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics, the study of materials under irradiation and nanostructuring, molecular collisions and the interstellar medium, radiobiology and innovative techniques for imaging and therapy of certain cancers.
GANIL (about 300 people) is located in France, in the city of Caen, in Normandy. GANIL is located on the future EPOPEA science and innovation park of the Caen la Mer urban community. It is managed jointly, within an Economic Interest Group (GIE) by the Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA/DRF) and by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS/IN2P3). As a national research infrastructure, GANIL serves the national, European and international scientific community composed of about one thousand users.
The person recruited will work within a team focused on the target laboratory. She will be attached to the PHASE (Physics of Heavy and Super-heavy Elements) group which is composed of researchers, PhDs and post-docs. She will work closely with members of the DEtection and Laser for Physics (DELPH) group, made up of ~20 people (engineers, technicians, postdoc, PhDs). These groups are integrated into the Physics Division.
Periods of travel and stays of several months within France and in Europe are expected in order to be trained with experts in actinide targets' fabrication and characterization from European laboratories: IJCLab at Orsay, France, JRC-Geel Belgium, University Johhannes Gütenberg at Mainz, Germany.
