Offer DescriptionThe parents of Nicrophorus vespillionides bury dead animals together, which they use to raise their own offspring. Their parental care also includes feeding the larvae and protecting them from predators. From an evolutionary point of view, the intensity of parental care should depend on the age of the parents and previous investments or the age of the offspring. In the dissertation, we will manipulate the number of larvae and their age, as well as the age of the parents, and we will measure the intensity of protection of the larvae against foreign invaders. In addition, we will investigate the functional significance of the stridulation of the burying beetle, which is still not sufficiently researched. According to our assumptions, stridulation will be related to the signaling of females against unwanted copulations.
