Sechelt, BCWhat you’ll do
  • Collect and/or receive laboratory specimens and performs clinical tests ordered or prepares specimen for referral following standardized laboratory techniques as outlined in the appropriate manuals. Perform phlebotomies including both venipuncture and microsampling on adults and children.
  • In the absence of the Lead Technologist, provide work direction to other staff and deals with scheduling issues as necessary.
  • Assist Lead Technologist in development of the staffing schedule to meet the department staffing needs in accordance with established guidelines and contracts.
  • Perform a variety of bench techniques: quality control, specimen analysis and interpretation of test results with respect to accuracy, acceptability and limits.
  • Participate in quality control/assurance activities with appropriate departmental education, such as monitoring quality control results and assist with the development of quality control ranges for new tests or controls.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Assume troubleshooting duties commensurate with education and experience obtained within the department and from other resources when possible, such as replacement of expensive parts and resolves problems beyond the scope of the Technologist I.
What you bring
  • Certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ recent experience in a general duty laboratory or an equivalent
  • Combination of education, training and experience. Interest in continuing self-education and development essential.

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
