Engineering Manager (C&I) - IreneFull job descriptionAs the Solar PV Engineering Manager at SolarAfrica, you will lead the engineering team to support sales, project delivery, operations, and maintenance. With your solar and renewable energy expertise, you'll manage resources, develop strategic plans, drive process improvements, and ensure regulatory compliance. Building strong relationships within and outside the organisation will be key to success. Position of the job in the organisation:You will report to the Head of Engineering Principal responsibilities:Lead, develop, and mentor the engineering team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.Allocate resources effectively and ensure team members are adequately trained and motivated.Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.Develop and implement strategic plans to drive growth and efficiency within the engineering department.Collaborate with senior management to align engineering objectives with overall business goals.Identify emerging trends and technologies in the solar PV industry to maintain a competitive edge.Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and increased efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.Implement best practices and standard operating procedures to streamline engineering workflows.Evaluate and optimise engineering processes to enhance project delivery and profitability.Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including sales, project delivery, and operations teams.Cultivate strategic partnerships with suppliers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to support project development and execution.Act as a liaison between the engineering department and other functional areas to facilitate cross-functional collaboration.Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and solar PV project codes.Stay informed about legislation and industry standards changes that may impact project design and implementation.Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance across all engineering activities.Any other job duties associated with this role. PERSON DESCRIPTIONExperience:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; professional registration as a PREng preferred.Minimum of 5 years of experience in solar PV engineering, with a track record of successful project management and team leadership.Proficiency in relevant software tools such as PVSyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD Electrical, etc.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.Valid driver's license and willing to travel. What Does Success Look Like?By month 3, I will have established a strong rapport with the engineering team, gaining their trust and respect. I will be conducting monthly 1:1s.By month 6, I will be actively implementing process improvements identified within the engineering department, leading to increased efficiency and cost savings. I would have completed a quarterly review with each of my team members and discussed Personal Development Plans with them.By month 12, I can confidently represent the engineering department in cross-functional meetings, demonstrating our contributions to the overall success of projects and the organisation.
