Position: Actuarial ManagerLocation: SandtonReports to: Chief ActuarySummary:
The Actuarial Manager will be responsible for overseeing the actuarial department and ensuring the accurate and timely completion of actuarial processes and analyses. The individual in this role will collaborate with the Chief Actuary to develop strategies and make recommendations based on actuarial modeling and calculations. The Actuarial Manager will also be responsible for mentoring and leading a team of actuarial analysts.Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the actuarial department
- Lead the development and implementation of actuarial models and methods
- Perform actuarial analyses to calculate insurance premiums, reserves, and profitability
- Collaborate with underwriting, finance, and other departments to support decision-making processes
- Review and approve actuarial reports and analyses prepared by junior team members
- Provide recommendations on pricing, product development, and risk management
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines
- Train and mentor actuarial analysts to develop their skills and knowledge
- Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new team membersQualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or related field
- Fellowship in the The Actuarial Society of South Africa- 7+ years of experience in actuarial roles within the insurance industry - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Proficiency in actuarial software and tools such as Excel, R, and SQL
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
