- Cook and prepare well-balanced, nutritious meals and snacks according to established policies, procedures, and nutritional guidelines.
- Provide monthly food supplies ordering and daily meal count reports.
- Place orders for food and food service related items to ensure that adequate supplies are available at all times.
- Pick-up food supplies at local supermarket as required and deliver food trays to outlying areas as required.
- Ensures safety guidelines and other applicable procedures are applied in the food preparation and dining areas and maintains a healthy environment in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Washes and dries pots, pans, eating utensils, and other cooking equipment.
- Cleans and sanitizes kitchen and dining areas.
- Ensures the safe usage and security of culinary equipment.
- Ensures the timely delivery of prepared food products to establishments served.
- Ensures preservation of foods and other ingredients are stored at recommended temperatures to minimize waste.
- Provide customer service and other job related duties as required in food services delivery.
- Skill in handling sharp knives, and other cutting utensils.
- Skill in providing superior customer service for both internal and external customers.
- Ability to safely operate various cooking equipment and kitchen appliances.
- Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
- Ability to work in open work environments as well as in confined and secured buildings.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma and six months food service industry work experience; or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
- Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire.
- Food Handler's Card must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.
- Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
- May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
- If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
- Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
