We serve a population of over 250,000 and feature two hospitals, two urgent cares, an emergent care center, outpatient services and a provider network with 19 regional locations.SummaryAs a part of a surgery team, under the supervision of a Charge RN or Nurse Manager, assists in providing optimal preparation and care of the surgical patient in accordance with patient needs, physician order, CTRH policy and standards of patient care.Responsibilities
  • Assists surgical team before, during and after surgery in a timely, cost effective manner by providing expert support, assistance and maintenance of instruments and equipment. • Checks instruments and equipment for cleanliness, sterility, and functionality prior to the start of each case. • Places equipment and supplies in the operating room and arranges instruments according to instructions. • Configures equipment for ease of use. • Assists with set up and use of equipment during procedures. • Assists in patient preparation before and positioning during procedures. • Scrubs and dons gown and gloves and assists members of the surgical team in preparing for surgery. • Oversees and assures the maintenance of the sterile field throughout the surgery in accordance with aseptic standards and techniques. • Passes instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants. Holds retractors and performs other tasks as directed. • Counts sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operations. • Assist with sterile and non-sterile dressings for patients following surgery • Cleans operating room, washes and sterilizes equipment and assists with room turnover • Supports standards of care though adherence to existing policies and procedures using AORN & ASGE standards as a guideline. • Maintains professional competence through formal education, workshops and unit specific requirements. • Participates in orienting and training new staff in procedures, policies and unit functioning • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired: o Surgical Technician certification required and maintained or has worked continuously as a scrub tech since prior to 1/1/2018. o Completion of an accredited surgical technologist training OR three (3) year of surgical technician experience, including successful completion of introductory requirements and competencies, required. o Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers o Hired after (01/01/2018) and not certified, must successfully complete not less than 15 hours annually continuing education concerning the practice of obstetrical technology and must maintain records with Human Resources. o Note: A health care facility may employ a person who does not possess the qualifications prescribed by subsection 1 to engage in the practice of surgical technology at the health care facility if, after conducting a thorough and diligent search, the health care facility is unable to employ a sufficient number of surgical technologists who possess such qualifications. A health care facility may continue to employ such a person after the health care facility determines it is able to employ a sufficient number of surgical technologists who possess such qualifications.
