- Adopt diverse methods to isolate phages from diverse environments, carry out genome wide screening assays, sample preparations for next gene ration sequencing, and prepare easy to follow experimental records.
- Optimize growth of bacterial pathogens and their genetic manipulations.
- Carry out phage evolution experiments, sample collection and processing.
- Carry out experimental protocols to study phage combinations with phage/antibiotic/metals/chemicals.
- Adopt and improvise robotic automation protocols and tools for enhanced research productivity.
- Attend weekly/monthly team meetings and provide an update on the project.
- Knowledge of handling bacteria and phage strains including their isolation and characterization.
- Experience in genome/plasmid preparation, PCR, gel electrophoresis.
- Knowledge of multiple sample collection and processing.
- Acquaintance with molecular cloning, media formulations, and strain archiving.
- B.S. degree in microbiology, virology, genetics, biochemistry, bioengineering, synthetic biology, genomics, molecular biology; a related field with 1-2 years related experience; and/or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Knowledge of next generation sequencing technologies.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, maintain appropriate records.
- This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is exempt and paid monthly.
