If you are an excellent communicator who is proactive and flexible in nature, energized by working independently and with a collaborative team environment, then this is the position for you.Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
  • Manage project logistics for laboratory works, conduct molecular research, marker validation, marker-assisted selection, genome-wide association studies, genomic selection, and transcriptomics studies.
  • Manage and conduct greenhouse or field experiments for phenotyping and genotyping, keep detailed records of research objectives and procedures
  • Write scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, assists in preparing reports and presentations for the stakeholders
  • Assist/write grant proposals
  • Get involved in breeding project work including planting, germplasm evaluation and selection and harvesting.
  • Travel to multilocation yield-trials.
  • Other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics or related field.
  • Training and Experience in bioinformatics and/or quantitative genetics and genomics
  • Evidence of strong genetics, molecular biology and plant breeding research including publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Documented oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in the area of quantitative genetics, genomics, molecular biology and plant breeding.
  • Demonstrable experience in genomics and molecular biology research (i.e. bioinformatics and analyses of next generation sequencing data), field and greenhouse phenotyping and marker-assisted selection.
  • Experience in bioinformatics and analyses of next generation sequencing data.
  • Excellence in data management and housekeeping, backups and quality control.
  • Good track record in scientific communication, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience in teamwork.
Funding: This is 100% grant supported position; future employment may be contingent upon future funding.Location and Facilities: The incumbent will be located at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center, Beaumont, Texas, USA. The Beaumont Center and its satellite station at Eagle Lake house about 45 scientists, research and administrative support staff, and students. Research expertise includes inbred and hybrid rice breeding, whole plant physiology, soils and plant nutrition; insect, weed and disease management; integrated cropping systems management; and cropping systems modeling. Facilities include about 960 acres of land at Beaumont and 114 acres of land at Eagle Lake.
