JOB SUMMARYThe City of Victoria has an exciting opportunity available for the Parks and Recreation Department! As a Parks Maintenance Worker (Part-Time), the successful candidate will provide entry level duties, including assisting during recreational programs, for athletic and special events, and in day to day park operations. Work is performed under direct supervision of a Crew Leader or Parks Superintendent.This is a non-exempt position.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Embraces and upholds the Goals and Objectives and Core Values of the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Conducts oneself in a professional manner at all times as a representative of the Victoria Parks and Recreation department.
  • Setup and breakdown of any and all equipment as needed for special events.
  • Performs entry level ball field maintenance such as but not limited to field preparation, irrigation and chemical applications.
  • Collects trash/debris before, during, and after special events and as assigned at baseball/softball facilities. Cleans facilities as needed and/or assigned, including but not limited to litter control and janitorial duties.
  • Provides public information about and monitors user conformance with park rules and regulations.
  • Performs the full range of duties, including the contaminant splash pad clean-up protocol, in and around the splash pads to provide a safe and enjoyable recreational setting for individuals using the City's splash pads.
  • Performs general maintenance of grassy areas, shrubs, trees, plants, and other associated landscape areas by using ground maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Performs work with various hand and power tools used in the construction, repair and maintenance of parks facilities such as but not limited to drills, hammers, wrenches and tape measures.
  • Maintains and performs preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Regular attendance at work and arrives on time. Subject to varied hours based on scheduled events, weekends, holidays, and call-out work as assigned.
  • Responsible for all equipment utilized in the course of the daily work assignments.
  • Performs any and all other tasks as needs are identified and as assigned.
  • Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONSAbility to drive a vehicle to and from various facilities and events. Employee will work in an indoor and outdoor setting and will sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, squat, stoop and twist while performing job duties. Employee may be exposed to environments with mechanical, electrical, fire, water, chemical and traffic hazards while performing duties. Employee will frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to push/pull a maximum weight of 150 pounds. Ability to handle small objects and tools.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods as required by work assignments. Ability to read and understand policies, work orders, and equipment manuals. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. General knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with park maintenance work. Ability to work alone or in a group effectively and be willing to perform all tasks necessary.Minimum Education, Experience and Certification:
Minimum 8th grade education required. Must be at least 17 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Valid Texas driver's license with driving record that meets City guidelines. No experience required. Personal Protective Equipment Required: (i.e. Safety Boots).
