The WFPSRL has an opening for a highly creative and motivated postdoctoral fellow with an interest in regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, microvascular remodeling and bioreactor principles. Successful candidates will join the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.Among other areas, our group's research activities include efforts directed toward the development of novel approaches to tissue salvage, repair, replacement and/or regeneration using cell-based methods. Our laboratory employs: cell isolation, cell/tissue culture, functional in vitro cell assays, histology, Flow cytometry, molecular biology, and various rodent and porcine models. The primary project will focus on: * The use of bioreactors and "bottom-up" tissue engineering strategies.
  • Understanding how perfusion impacts vasculogenesis in the setting of 3-D niche environments.
  • Adapting findings and strategies to scaled pre-clinical models of tissue repair/replacement.
REQUIREMENTSThe applicant must be an MD, PhD or MD/PhD graduate, ideally with:
  • Excellent cell biology skills
  • Experience in Biomedical Engineering
  • Outstanding personal initiative and communication skills, including experience and/or ability to prepare manuscripts and/or grants for peer review
