Job DescriptionWe're looking for an experienced Web Designer / Front End Developer to join the award-winning ND Web team in developing the University's most important websites. Every day you'll be collaborating with our team of web professionals to design beautiful, usable websites for the Notre Dame community.This is a full time position in South Bend, IN. Our designers/developers work with other team members (accounts, project managers, content strategists, developers) to conceptualize and execute the creative elements of a website build. This includes layouts, art direction, graphic design, and front-end technical development. You'll need to be comfortable discussing and presenting your design work with clients. Although the focus is primarily websites, the role occasionally includes emails, social, and other digital products.About ND Creative:ND Creative is the primary source of centralized marketing communications for the University. Our award-winning web, print, photography, and video professionals work collaboratively to create marketing materials for Notre Dame colleges & schools, departments, and administrative units. In addition, we oversee the University's top-level sites (such as www.nd.edu) and are the keepers of the Notre Dame brand standards.The web team is a small, lean group of web professionals working both in-person and remotely. We work traditional hours and value collaboration and flexibility. Our projects prioritize performance, accessibility, best practices, and outstanding responsive web design.Position Responsibilities:Conceptualize and execute new web designs. Using previously-defined information architecture and content modeling as a guide, use tools such as Figma, Illustrator, Omnigraffle, Photoshop, Sketch, and others to create wireframes, style tiles, mockups and other representations of web design templates.Technical development and modifications (html, css, etc). This can include styling new websites after the preliminary build from web team developers, or modifications to existing websites.Collaboration, team brainstorming, and other administrative. The web team commonly discusses and collaborates on best practices, trends, technical hurdles, content types, brand standards, and other parts of building a great network of websites for the University.Team and client meetings. This role includes significant collaboration with web team colleagues and customers, working together to create excellent websites. This includes both in-person and remote (typically Zoom) environments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of front-end web design experience
  • Online portfolio of web design work
  • Hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, and RWD.
  • Strong typography, color, and layout skills
  • Strong understanding of branding
  • Experience with mobile design and wireframing
  • Commitment to web best practices
  • Team Player
