We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 50,103.20 for a fulltime position. A dissertation position is being advertised for this research focus, which aims to improve the understanding of groundwater recharge processes in mountainous regions through interdisciplinary research.The position is part of the MoLedge (Mountain Knowledge: Climate - Water - Risk) consortium of the Doctoral Academy of the University of Graz and is based at the Department of Geography and Regional Science for 18 months and at the Department of Earth Sciences for further 18 months.About usAt the University of Graz, 4700 employees work together on future questions and solutions for the world of tomorrow.   • Completed diploma or master´s degree in the field of earth sciences, physical geography or a related field
  • Knowledge of/interest in meteorological measurements, hydrogeological mapping and analysis methods
  • Interest/experience in working independently and autonomously in high mountain areas
  • Basic knowledge of programming with Python or Matlab or analogue programming platform
  • Knowledge of hydrogeology/geomorphology and/or meteorology/glaciology with a focus on mountains
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Driving licence (B)
  • Enjoyment of scientific work
  • Ability to work in a team

  • Writing a dissertation in the field of earth sciences, environmental system sciences or geography with a focus on mountain research

  • Investigation of the interaction between precipitation - snow cover/snow melt - infiltration/groundwater recharge - drainage dynamics in alpine catchment areas
  • Field research (hydrogeological/meteorological measurements) in the area of the LTER site Johnsbachtal-Gesäuse
  • Research in an internationally networked research group in cooperation with the NAWI Graz Geo Centre, the Wegener Centre and with (inter)national partners
