- Knowledge of construction of refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning equipment and apparatus.
- Knowledge of low and high pressure boiler systems and steam generation.
- Knowledge of methods of installation and repair of refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning equipment and apparatus.
- Knowledge of refrigeration, heating, ventilating and air-conditioning principles.
- Knowledge of OSHA and MIOSHA safety requirements.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles.
- Skill in utilizing the tools of the trade.
- Skill in observation.
- Skill in mechanical and physical dexterity.
- Skill in locating and diagnosing equipment problems and malfunctions.
- Skill in use of electronic diagnostic instrumentation.
- Ability to diagnose failures of low and high pressure boiler system components.
- Ability to operate a personal computer.
- Ability communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment maintenance and operations manuals and electrical schematic diagrams.
- Ability to demonstrate mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Ability to operate a variety of refrigeration, heating and ventilating equipment.
- Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to interact effectively with superiors, peers, vendors and suppliers with tact and diplomacy.
- Valid Refrigerant Transition Recovery Certificate, Certified Type I and Type II are required.
- Employees in this class will be required to provide the tools necessary to perform the work assigned.
- Employees in this class will be required to operate a motor vehicle; a Valid State of Michigan Operator License is required.
- A valid 1st Class Refrigeration Journeyman's License or greater is required.
- Work may require occasional lifting and/or moving of equipment weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
- Work is performed in a repair shop with some exposure to video display units; there is field work involved with possible exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
