The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in supporting the financial operations of Union Rescue Mission. This individual will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and preparing financial statements to guide management on financial decisions according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).   • Compile monthly internal and annual consolidated financial statements.
  • Assist in development of the annual operating and capital budgets as well as performance projections.
  • Reconcile all bank and investment accounts.
  • Assist with grant reporting by preparing required financial documentation and reports.
  • Assist with New Market Tax Credit reporting by preparing required financial documentation and reports.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for retail operations.
  • Analyze and reconcile accounting data to develop appropriate recommendations and solutions.
  • Analyze and reconcile accounts, inter-company transactions, and process journal entries, as needed.
  • Prepare account analysis and explanation of budget variances.
  • Maintain the Accounting system, Accounting Procedure Manual, and internal controls in accordance with GAAP.
  • Account for depreciable/amortizable assets.
  • Assist in implementing and integrating new software platforms.
  • Compile annual Form 990 and other annual regulatory reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of year end documents for external audit and to facilitate the audits.
  • Conduct all responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner.
  • Conduct other tasks and projects assigned by the Director of Finance.

RequirementsSTAFF ACCOUNTANT EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSURES:
  • BS/BA in Accounting or related field.
  • 5+ years progressively responsible, related experience.
  • Non-profit experience, a plus.
  • CPA license, a plus.
  • Experience with grant reporting, a plus.
STAFF ACCOUNTANT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Highly experienced in integrated accounting systems (Abila MIP Fund Accounting), CRMs (Salesforce) and other financial and operational systems.
  • Ability to analyze fairly complex data and develop recommendations and solutions.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and project management skills with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
  • Well-versed in the use of technology applied in financial and operational environments.
  • New Market Tax Credit Program, retail and construction experience, a plus.
  • Strong orientation toward detail, quality and task completion.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to be an effective team member and handle project leadership responsibility.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the external and organizational environment.
