About the unitThe Med Surg unit located at Gerber Hospital is made up of 24 private beds which includes 18 inpatient and 6 observation rooms. The ICU for Gerber Hospital is connected to this unit and is comprised of 11 beds. Patients on this unit range in age from mainly young adults to geriatrics and can be admitted for a variety of medical conditions and to recover from various surgeries. Examples of surgeries include total knee and hip replacements and general surgery patients. Patients can also be admitted for general conditions such as pneumonia, COPD, CHF, and more. Patients located in the ICU might need cardiac drips, insulin drips, ventilators, and bipaps. There's no better place to find local care.Scope of workActs as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days
  • Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program
