- Enforce all plant policies and procedures, including safety and food safety rules and take immediate action on upset conditions.
- Enforce utilization of safety mechanisms and proper maintenance for good working order of safety devices.
- Conduct Management of Change (MOC) and safety design reviews on all proposed projects, installed equipment, relocated equipment and building modifications.
- Maintain compliance with applicable regulations and promote leading safety awareness
- Actively participate on cross-functional teams for development of new products, manufacturing capabilities or resolving production issues
- Facilitate the troubleshooting of mechanical systems
- Research automation technologies and help design efficient manufacturing workflows
- Assemble teams for engineering and capital projects
- Lead project meetings, setting schedules and agendas while engaging participants to actively contribute
- Distribute project status update reports to keep stakeholders informed of progress, challenges and key changes
- Evaluate and advise on suitable hardware and software for engineering needs
- Develop a system to track and follow-up on any open items or action steps
- Gather estimated pricing and lead times for all components for a project
- Submit capital expenditure approval requests in alignment of plant and company objectives
- Ensure project tracking documents are created and updated, including charters, Gantt Charts, project plans, budgets, providing status updates on a consistent and timely basis.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors on customized solutions and enhancements when standard offerings do not accomplish project objectives.
- Plan and facilitate trials or operational tests on new equipment
- Manage the start-up of new equipment to ensure quality performance before handing over to operations
- Manage contractor activities, setting clear expectations to ensure timely and quality completion of projects, while enforcing all plant policies and procedures while onsite.
- Champion company stewardship by assessing and prioritizing project options with an acceptable ROI
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager on the selection of necessary contractors
- Assess equipment for obsolescence risks or potentially inefficient mechanical design
- Assist in the training of Maintenance apprentices and guide team on engineering concepts
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related field
- Experience with flexible packaging is preferred
- Computer skills to utilize various programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, AutoCad, SolidWorks) including basic statistics knowledge
- Analytical and critical thinking skills with an aptitude to quickly absorb new procedures and industry advancements
- Demonstrated history of complex decision making and working with others to problem solve
- Not easily overwhelmed by details
- A desire for results and demonstrated proactive mindset
- Demonstrated organizational skills with an ability to prioritize projects, combined with the ability to provide and receive direction
- Ability to function effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment, completing assignments in a timely manner
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to exemplify professional behavior in all aspects of the position
