  • You will perform complex aspects of masonry.
  • You will plan and lay brick, firebrick, cinder and cement block, glass block, terra cotta, and various stone in constructing and repairing such items as foundations, walls, fireplaces, incinerators, walks, and other items of masonry.
  • You will plan, lay out and fabricate forms, mix, pour and finish a variety of cement and concrete surfaces and structures.
  • You will construct windowsills, mantles, and arches capable of supporting the walls above the openings.
  • You will independently plan, layout the work to be done, select the proper tools, determine methods/materials to be used, and accomplish the work in accordance with approved methods.
  • You will interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, surveys, work orders, and/or sketches.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain license for the operation of a forklift other high lift and/or construction equipment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current respirator certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MASON WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING: 1) Lay a variety of brick, block, and stone (e.g. firebrick, structural tile, concrete blocks, glass blocks, terra cotta and artificial and natural stone) to repair items such as partitions, walls, walkways, manholes, boilers, catch basins, chimneys, and fireplaces; 2) Work from oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and rough sketches to complete assigned tasks; and 3) Use a variety of hand and power tools such as trowels, mixers, chisels, hammers, crowbars, brick or skill saws, axes, and picks to remove or prepare walls for repair and cut and shape brick and stone.Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
