- Assists Senior Finance teammates in the preparation of period end financial statements, support schedules, and expense analysis with input from other Financial Reporting and Grants staff. Coordinates the period end close and participates in ad hoc external reporting (i.e., NTD & AOR).
- Reviews ledger accounts, vendor invoice records, journal entries presented for posting, and other source documents for accuracy and completeness. Investigates and resolves any accounting concerns within the ledger.
- Performs specialized accounting tasks to track the Authority’s grant, fixed asset, and capital project expenditures; prepares analyses, verifies accounting records and financial data; complies and interprets GAAP, Agency policies, and procedures.
- Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense journals by compiling and analyzing G/L account information. Conducts period end account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and proper ledger maintenance.
- Maintains subsidiary schedules, analyzes, and reconciles G/L accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions then resolving any discrepancies, if necessary.
- Examines staff accountants’ work for technical accuracy and completeness by scrutinizing entries for support documentation; providing feedback or making reclassifications as needed.
- Confirms all inter-company transactions and conducts maintenance of existing balance sheet accounts. Maintains project tracking software to monitor project expenses by category.
- Creates monthly bank reconciliations and the journals required to adjust the system’s ledger.
- Reconciles prepaid accounts and their associated amortization schedules including posting balances to the general ledger.
- Answers inquiries from both internal and external customers by examining prior period transactions and drawing conclusions. Ensures applicable documentation, funding sources, and justification are accurate in accordance with applicable grant requirements.
- Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.
- Related work experience with a government entity.
- Experience with Great Plains Dynamics helpful.
- Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), practices, and methods of accounting as related to grants, fixed assets, and capital projects.
- Knowledge of automated accounting systems.
- Proficient in the use of a personal computer and associated software including applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to maintain accurate technical operating records and to prepare clear and concise oral and written reports.
- Ability to coordinate multiple functions.
- Ability to provide and maintain proof of a valid Florida Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record for any employee using a company vehicle.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with those encountered in the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
