People like you!This is public contact work involved in operating a small switchboard system serving a single Municipal department and in providing factual data requiring little explanation in response to enquiries made by telephone or in person. An employee of this class may perform routine typing and clerical work. Answers and screens all incoming telephone calls; connects caller to correct referral or appropriate substitute; takes messages when referral not possible. Routes and records outgoing long distance calls; checks long distance billings for accuracy; reports complaints; notes overloaded lines; memorizes changes in departmental staff and their responsibilities. Supplies information, assistance and direction to the public over the telephone and counter concerning departmental operations and procedures and related external agencies. Checks and maintains a variety of office records, forms, notices, files, reports, statistics and related material. Types from, copy, rough draft or general instructions a variety of material such as correspondence, reports, tabulations, and related data. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include up to high school graduation including or supplemented by switchboard operation and typing training plus some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the operation of a small switchboard system and of the functions, regulations and rules governing department operations and activities; of business English, spelling, arithmetic and punctuation. Ability to speak distinctly with a good telephone manner; to deal effectively with the public, staff and officials in supplying information and assistance related to departmental operations. Ability to perform routine clerical and typing assignments and operate standard office equipment. The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM; Or Monday to Friday from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PMThis competition has been extended and will remain opened until filled.
