Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.Primary ResponsibilitiesHDR is seeking a qualified individual to join a group of experts in the Ports and Maritime group as a Senior Structural BIM Specialist. This individual will participate with teams to design small to large projects (construction values typically from $500K to $100M) and primary focus will be on graphically illustrating the geotechnical, structural, and general civil design elements of projects. Typical ports projects contain marine, geotechnical, structural, piping, rail and general civil drawings which illustrate how a project will be constructed. Primary responsibility will involve generating scopes of work, estimating overall man-hour efforts related to those scopes, drawing detailed plans and details, generating regulatory documents, and overseeing the quality control review process.In the role of Structural BIM Specialist 4, we'll count on you to:
  • Use and implementation of standard drafting practices will be required. Knowledge of National CAD standards, and the mandatory use of HDR CAD standards will be required.
  • Following a project kick-off meeting, independent creation of drawing set including initial plan view layouts of civil site plans, marine terminals, dredging templates, etc, without much assistance from engineering team.
  • Use Civil 3D to create and analyze grading, surfaces, points, volumes, alignments, and sections.
  • Implement 3D generation of civil and structural features using HDR’s standards and tools.
  • Create designs independently under broad direction from the Project Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Performing design tasks to clearly illustrate constructible/practical plans, details and technical specifications.
  • Production of document references (appendices to studies/reports, design sketches, opinions of costs quantity calculation)
  • Implementation and use of HDR and/or client CAD standards on projects
  • Actively participating in strategies and providing guidance regarding production of deliverables (drawings, proposal man hours, scopes, etc.) to achieve project goals (schedules, budgets, etc.)
  • Manage multiple projects and providing oversight and direction to junior level CAD/BIM technicians to completely and accurately achieve tasks outlined by the engineering team.
  • Utilize group-specified or project-specified communication protocol and effective oral and written communications skills for interaction between peers, management and other design and production staff.
  • Independently identify and address quality control issues to maintain high quality levels of deliverables.
  • Adherence to all QC protocols; checking and adjustment of work product prior to submission to others for QC confirmations.
  • Construction field observations to verify general conformance with contract documents.
  • Work towards HDR and local group betterment:
  • Work towards process improvement in line with HDR standards and Ports and Maritime specific standards. Define or identify tools/processes needed to make work more efficient.
  • Manage work quality of local CAD tech group on small/large projects.
  • Actively participating in strategies and providing guidance regarding production of deliverables (drawings, proposal man hours, scopes, etc.) to achieve project goals (schedules, budgets, etc.)
  • Lead local Best Practice Group and get involved in HDR CAD development program.
  • Mentor other HDR employees.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Associate or technical school degree, or combination of education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of 10+ years structural design experience
  • Expert in AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads, and other BIM design software
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office
  • Knowledgeable with standard structural codes and standards
  • Ability to be a lead technician and work closely with Jr
  • CAD Staff
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Engineering technology/CAD preferred
