Duties:The position is responsible for assembling, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and/or storing procedure trays, surgical trays and equipment. Also assembles, distributes and/or delivers disposable and durable medical equipment, case carts and supplies to fill the needs of the Operating Room, Nursing Units, Ancillary Departments and SCL Clinics.1. Operates and monitors sterilization equipment.2. Prioritizes daily tasked based on interpretation of surgical schedule, determining the requirement for instruments for each surgical case.3. Disassembles carts and follows Universal Precautions for decontamination.4. Sterilizes, disinfects durable medical equipment and instruments, packages clean supplies and instruments, maintains records for all instruments and transports sterilized items to the floor.5. Assembles sterilized instruments and rechecks all instruments for cleanliness and/or impairment. Properly checks power equipment.6. Takes measures to allow for easy instrument tracking including following labeling processes, use of engraver, reporting and documenting all missing instruments and implants replaced in trays.7. Communicates the equipment and instrument inventory status with the Central Processing staff and Surgery Charge Nurse including order status, back orders and/or changes.8. Responds to emergency situations by insuring all emergency, trauma and add-on cases are supplied properly and delivered to the Operating Room in a timely manner.9. Utilizes applications and technology to accurately facilitate record keeping in accordance with State and Federal regulations.10. Provides on the job training on the job training (OJT) to newly hired associates in the department.11. Promotes mission, vision, and values of ***, and abides by service behavior standards.12. Performs other duties as assigned.13. May be required to work overtime based on business need.14. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.15. Demonstrated competency in all areas of Sterile Processing tasks, procedures, practices. Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required. Advanced knowledge of cleaning, disinfection and decontamination processes and sterilizers. Advanced understanding of types and functions of instruments and equipment (e.g. endoscopic, microsurgical, robotic and power). Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team. Experience and understanding in the use of computers, as well as the ability to learn software relevant to Sterile Processing. Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service oriented environment. Ability to work nights and/or weekends. Required: Competent working knowledge in all aspects of Sterile Processing. Preferred: 1+ year of experience in a hospital or clinic operating room.Shift: DAY 8
