This position entails the operation of equipment and other activities applying asphalt to roadbeds, parking lots, and airport runways to achieve daily production goals on construction projects. - Performs all work adhering to OSHA and H&K Safety policies
- Operate asphalt paver or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications as instructed by crew superintendent to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met
- Make normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade, and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controls
- Oil, grease, and service equipment
- Manipulate hand or foot levers to control movement of machine spreads and levels asphalt on subgrade of highway and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving
- Experience with asphalt paver and screed operation in roadbeds, parking lots, and/or airport runways
- Ability to operate asphalt paver/screed within designated area with attention to detail and emphasis on craftmanship
- Ability to guide and dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver
- Ability to operate or initiative to learn other equipment required on an asphalt crew
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Problem solving
- Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
- Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institution
- Four years of experience with roller machines on highway road construction projects
- Experience with other heavy equipment commonly used in highway road construction
- OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
