In turn, we hope this helps you evaluate if this is the right job for you.Job SummaryCroda is seeking a skilled and self-motivated analytical scientist to support and advance our commitment to sustainable chemistry. The position, located at our Atlas Point site, requires a self-starter who will support the development of new products and applications through the use of various techniques within ISCS. The ideal candidate is expected to have a solid background in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, good communication skills and a “can-do” attitude. This candidate is expected to advance the biodegradability capabilities within North America and collaborate with the global team to support innovation and claim substantiation using expertise in biodegradability, chromatography and MS techniques. Principal duties will include planning, performing, and reporting laboratory studies on biodegradability studies using OECD 301B and 301F methods and process data from the biodegradability study. This scientist is also expected to have solid analytical knowledge and hand-on experience with different chromatography and MS instruments such as HPLC, GC and LC-MS. Time management skills is important since the scientist will independently work on chromatography and MS analysis of Croda products or degradation products during the wait time of the biodegradability testing. In addition, this role is expected to guide scientists in the Life Sciences and Consumer Care businesses in effective use of the various analytical capabilities within the ISCS Team.Perform all duties within the guidelines of Company's safety, health & environmental regulations. All other duties as assigned by management.Duties and Responsibilities:Key Duties:· Plan and perform studies of the biodegradation of new materials using OECD 301B and 301F methods and communicate the identified trends and results at internal project meetings to scientists in life sciences and consumer care business.· Assist scientists in the applications teams in the development of new product performance data, particularly using various available techniques for the measurement of the physical properties of products and formulations.· Develop collaborations with partners both within Croda and in external organizations, including vendors, academics, and customers, to enhance and expand the characterization capabilities of Croda R&D.· Conduct chromatography and MS analysis using different analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, GPC, LC-MS and MALDI to support Croda's product characterization and using chromatography and MS techniques to support degradation product characterization. Prior hands-on experience in operating a semi-prep LC or SFC system is a plus.· Respond in a timely manner to business needs for the development of new data. Prepare written reports and presentation materials. Support the development of marketing and product literature. Participate in sales and marketing training as requested.· Lend guidance and assistance in areas of expertise to other members of Croda R&D.· Excellent time management skill is a must since this role will be required to move different projects forward simultaneously and is expected to effectively manage the wait time during the biodegradability testing and use the time to perform chromatography, MS, and other related analytical testing for Croda products.· Be able to work in a collaborative environment with a minimum of supervision and work with the rest of the ISCS team to maintain analytical instruments within the team.QualificationsEducation and Training:MS or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with experience in chromatography and MS techniques such as HPLC, GC and LC-MS.Knowledge and Experience:· Knowledge of natural product chemistry, enzymatic catalysis, bioprocessing, sustainable and green chemistry is highly desirable.· 3+ years of relevant industrial or academic experience.· Understand biodegradability testing guidelines and the differences between different biodegradability methods such as OECD 301B and 301F method.· Understand both the chemical processes involved in chemical synthesis and biodegradation and the varied analytical methods (especially HPLC and LC-MS) required to study the biodegradation process.Skills and Abilities· Proven ability to work both independently and in a team environment; drive to complete tasks according to agreed schedules and the needs of the business.· Ability to communicate effectively through both written reports and verbal presentations.Physical Demands:Able to walk, stand or sit for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
