Responsibilities :
- Match specimens and requisitions to verify correct patient/specimen information. Evaluate specimen quality/suitability for testing and maintain specimen integrity throughout testing process
- Perform specimen processing before staining of samples with monoclonal antibodies and flow cytometric analysis of stained samples
- Determine which sample require additional antibodies to analyze properly
- Prepare reagents and solutions used in staining and flow cytometry analysis of samples
- Adhere to hospital and departmental guidelines about fire and lab safety, blood-borne pathogens, infection control and chemical hygiene
- Utilize proper software protocols to analyze and report numeric and image results to the laboratory information system for both quantitative and qualitative tests
- Review results to determine if suitable for reporting
- Assist in training staff, residents, fellows and/or other trainees
- Perform instrument maintenance procedures for optimal functioning
- Analyze in flow cytometric software and reports results of immunophenotyping in laboratory information system for review by hematopathologist. Analyze and report results of CD34+ stem cell enumeration to Stem Cell Laboratory personnel
- Bachelor's degree in a physical science, medical technology preferred
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (General or restricted to the Flow Cytometry Lab)
- 1 year work experience required
- Must have Sample Prep for staining lymphocyte subsets for flow cytometry using Beckman Coulter, Aquios instruments, Navios -- flow cytometer used for analyzing samples, Micropipettor, centrifuge, vortex, hemacytometer, cytocentrifuge, balance, biosafety cabinets, etc. used in preparation of reagents and samples.
- Computers and software used to operate the flow cytometer and analyze data obtained using Kaluza required
- Laboratory information system used for reporting results and retrieving pertinent information.
