Under the supervision of the Principal, in collaboration with the Parent as Teacher (PAT) supervisor, and the Family Support and Prevention Program Director/Manager, the Parent Outreach Coordinator provides training, support and resources to families in order to facilitate positive parent-child learning experiences and relationships.Essential Functions:
  • Assist in the implementation of Norwalk Board of Education administrative policies, rules, regulations and directives
  • Follow Norwalk school policy to ensure student safety
  • Promote a positive office atmosphere to welcome and assist visitors
  • Respond to questions and requests promptly and appropriately
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
  • Identify family needs and provide assistance through community resources, case management, educational services and parent education
  • Encourage and engage families to participate in meaningful activities to strengthen their children’s social, emotional, and academic growth
  • Initiate home visits to provide parents with information and training regarding nutrition, child development, positive parenting techniques and school readiness/success
  • Develop, monitor and review goals with each family
  • Complete an initial and annual family centered assessment with each family
  • Complete ongoing developmental screenings and health reviews for each child
  • Provide parent training using the Parents as Teachers (PAT) foundational curriculum
  • Provide opportunities for families to connect with each other to build social connections and engage in parent-child interaction activities
  • Connect families with resources to help them address their needs and reach their goals
  • Maintain and submit required program documentation within deadlines
  • Participate in reflective supervision sessions and biweekly staff meetings with community organizations
  • Participate in competency-based professional development
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Interact in a positive manner with all staff, students, parents and visitors
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  • Maintain a level of approachability by administration, staff, parents and visitors
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to listen attentively
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks effectively
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize workflow
  • Organizational and problem solving skills
Qualifications/Certificates:
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Two years (2) of experience above the clerk level in office support or secretarial work
  • College training of 15 semester hours equaling .5 year of experience in the secretarial sciences may be substituted for two years of experience above clerk level
  • May require fluency in Spanish
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or designee find appropriate
Days: Monday – Friday (37.5 hours weekly)
Salary: In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement
Group: Two

Work Year: August - June (10 Months/40 weeks)
