Our Division of Regional Ocean Forecasting Systems (ROFS), part of the Institute for Earth System Predictions, is looking for a new position of Computer Engineer for Operations and Data Management to support the operational activities and the metocean data management.

The Computer Engineer for Operations and Data Management is responsible for the implementation and the deployment of the operational chains, their monitoring, and the management of the internal and external data repository. He/She will also administrate the underlying infrastructure.RESPONSIBILITIES
The Computer Engineer for Operations and Data Management will support the ROFS Division activities, with:
  • Implementation, maintenance, porting, monitoring, and recovery of all the operational chains (including operational validation and visualization systems).
  • Tracking failures of operational chains as well as their solution and type of intervention by implementing automatic recovery procedures.
  • Co-Design, implementation and maintenance of an internal data catalogue.
  • Co-Design, implementation and maintenance the operational visualization and validation websites for produced data.
REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • good knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and script languages (i.e., *nix shell)
  • good background in GNU/Linux Operating Systems administration
  • good knowledge of version control systems (i.e., git)
  • good knowledge of IT automation tools (i.e., Ansible)
  • good knowledge of design and development of REST API
  • good background in containerization (i.e., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • good knowledge of OPeNDAP Servers (i.e., ERDDAP)
  • good background in System Administration and DevOps
  • good knowledge of programming languages (i.e., Python and PHP)
  • good background in managing/manipulating NetCDF data
  • good knowledge of Cloud Computing
  • good experience in managing/manipulating/visualization of metocean data (i.e., NetCDF, CF metadata convention, GRIB, csv) and associated tools (NCO, CDO libraries)
  • very good knowledge of the English language.
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
  • The Computer Engineer for Operations and Data Management will be based in Lecce CMCC office.
  • The appointment period will be initially of 24 months starting from June 2024, renewable pending a positive evaluation, with a gross annual salary range based on qualification and working experience and competitive with major research centers in Europe.
