MAYOR'S OFFICEThe City of Detroit is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Projects Project Manager to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role involves overseeing and managing various special projects across different departments within the city government. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional project management skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation.The Project Manager & Analytics Specialist class includes all positions whose duties are to identify and address process and project improvement opportunities within the City of Detroit.The Project Manager & Analytics Specialist must possess a detailed understanding of project management, project development, project implementation and project resolution.Examples of Duties
- Plan, execute, and oversee special projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with department heads and stakeholders on project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and implement corrective actions as necessary to keep projects on track.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among project team members, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Prepare regular progress reports, presentations, and updates as needed.
- Evaluate project outcomes, lessons learned, and best practices to inform future initiatives and improve overall project management processes.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence within the project management team and across the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in project management, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in project management, with a track record of successfully leading complex projects from initiation to completion.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of local government operations, policies, and procedures is a plus.
- At the Project Manager & Analytics Specialist Level II and Level III, they assist in the development, analysis and implementation of divisional goals, initiatives and plans.
- The work is characterized as sedentary.
- Typically Project Manager & Analytics Specialists sit comfortably to do their work, interspersed by brief periods of walking, standing, bending, and extended periods requiring the use of computer terminals and technology to accomplish work objectives.
- Work is performed in a comfortable office environment which is appropriately lighted, heated and cooled.
