M. Tucker Nursing Care Center Campus, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.As the Hair Care Specialist, working under limited supervision, you will perform skilled cosmetology duties in shop or on a unit.Responsibilities for this Hair Care Specialist include but are not limited to:
Shampoos, cuts, curls, or perm resident's hair in shop or on a unit, including wheelchair and bed residents. Stays productively occupied except when on break and during lunch period.
Establishes and maintains a helpful, therapeutic/working relationship with staff and residents. Confers with nursing personnel! concerning changes in resident's behavior, progress, or other observations. Reports unusual observations involving residents and staff to person in charge and/or supervisor.
Keeps the shop clean and orderly. Cleans and sterilizes tools and equipment, utilizes measures to safeguard against and prevent spread of disease by hand washing and cleaning equipment between residents. Observes infection control as well as safety rules and regulations.
Orders and maintain adequate supplies and ensure that equipment is in good working order.
Teaches and assists residents in personal grooming. Responds promptly to special requests for services.
State Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an approved barber or cosmetology course and experience as a barber or cosmetologist.Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements: A tenth grade education, graduation from an approved cosmetology course and one (1) year experience as a cosmetologist; or any combination of education, training or experience.Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.The selected candidate must have knowledge of principles, techniques, and standards of cosmetology and/or barbering. Working knowledge of sanitary precautions necessary in barber and beauty shops and on the units. Ability to work cooperatively with staff and residents. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) or three (3) flights of stairs. Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in resident areas for long periods.
