Are you a confident, solution-oriented Claim Handler with professional work comp and/or excess work comp claims experience? If you thrive on managing a challenging portfolio of US excess work comp and work comp claims this role may be for you!The RoleThis position manages a book of run off excess workers' compensation and primary workers' compensation claims.The excess work comp book features an indemnification policy under which the insured may become eligible for reimbursement of moneys paid on the underlying work comp claim, subject to the policy provisions. With limited supervision, but ample support, you will be expected to manage your claims from initial report through final resolution, including each step in between.Additional responsibilities include:
  • Actively manage newly acquired portfolio claims with responsibility for overseeing the TPA's claim handling of the claims and for loss cost management and mitigation.
  • Responsible for identifying and implementing sound strategies to profitably run-off the existing portfolio and any acquired portfolios.
  • From time to time, participation on virtual project teams tasked with evaluating reserve sufficiency and claim department processes/procedures for portfolio acquisition opportunities.
This position may be remote if the candidate is not located near any of the existing Swiss Re office locations in the US. If located within 50 miles of an office the position will be hybrid, which means 50% in the office each week and 50% work from home, but employees may work in the office 100% if desired.Our TeamSwiss Re is an experienced group of insurance professionals who seek to understand and meet the needs of our insureds and brokers by providing the highest quality customer service.Our claim professionals interact with our insureds, brokers, attorneys and various workers' compensation experts; provide direction to defense and coverage counsel; develop resolution strategies; and take an active role in mediations, settlement conferences and other dispute resolution processes.About youYou possess strong negotiation skills as well as the ability to deal with insureds and their attorneys in the settlement of disputed claims. You bring excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be creative in mitigation strategies. Strong written and verbal communication skills accompany your instinct for problem-solving and collaboration.Additional requirements include:
  • 5+ years' experience handling excess work comp and/or work comp claims. Legal background could be a suitable substitute for claims experience.
  • Strong California knowledge is required.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of excess work comp and/or work comp policies and practices in US.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Excel
  • Ability to work effectively in various computer environments and systems
  • Texas Adjusters License, AIC, or CPCU would be beneficial
Travel requirements average 10%For California the estimated base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $144,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
