Every day, you’ll be empowered and challenged by working with dynamic colleagues to find new and innovative ways to make Sun Life the best benefits company in America.The opportunity:The Underwriting Consultant III reports into FullscopeRMS Underwriting Management and is responsible for the evaluation and selection of risk as well as the establishment of premium levels that ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and the continued profitable retention of inforce cases within the assigned case size levels. This position may assist in training, technical development and mentoring of an Underwriter.How you will contribute:Risk Management: Support the development of an organization focused on high quality risk assessment. This requires the incumbent to:Make appropriate risk, premium and business decisions, and exceptions on all cases within assigned limitsAnalyze and identify early and ongoing risk trends for assigned clients and make appropriate recommendations for addressing theseDevelop personal credibility with clients and peersTeamwork: Support the achievement of FullscopeRMS as well as client goals. This requires the incumbent to:Utilize technical expertise in risk selectionDevelop selection and retention of client customers through accurate risk assessment and appropriate premium levels that meet profit, persistency, and sales objectivesFocus on the client’s case level salesDemonstrate decisiveness, creativity, and superiority in risk selection so that the most competitive, equitable and appropriate decision is make for each client’s caseIndependently make financial decisions of up to $250,000 within defined guidelinesDeliver dependable, accurate, timely service and build strong relationships with all clientsWhat you will bring with you:Minimum 3 years of group insurance underwriting experience required; college degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.In depth knowledge of disability products including product provisions, plan design, pricing and contractual benefitsKnowledge of the reinsurance processDemonstrated knowledge of industry and marketplace trends within the local marketplace for assigned clientsCreative problem solving/analytical reasoning skillsStrong math aptitudeExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalDemonstrated ability to be persuasive and to negotiateAbility to work independently and address problems through own initiative and creativityWell organized and able to handle multiple prioritiesStrong computer skills, proficient in a PC environment and MS Word, Excel, and email systemsAbility to work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, claimants, vendors, and others with whom FullscopeRMS does businessExcellent written and oral communication skillsDemonstrated ability to establish excellent team-oriented interpersonal working relationshipsDemonstrated ability to working deadline-oriented environment with multiple priorities.Strong customer service skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Do you see yourself in this role even if you haven’t checked all the boxes above?
