DescriptionThe Surveillance Epidemiologist will support Emerging Infections Program (EIP) surveillance programs and special studies in the School of Medicine at Emory University to ensure high-quality epidemiologic data acquisition and quality procedures. The Position will be assigned to one or more specific EIP program areas but will also provide general EIP support.JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Collects epidemiologic data through laboratory audit and medical record reviews in multiple health system.
  • Enters, manages, and cleans surveillance and study data in databases such as REDCap, SendSS, Access, etc.
  • Analyzes data in software packages such as SAS or R.
  • Produces data, reports, and presentations for external partners, as well as for internal use.
  • Retrieves, transports, and accessions packaged laboratory specimens.
  • Communicates with medical facilities to collect and verify epidemiologic information and specimens.
  • Conducts telephone interviews and supports special studies. Performs related program area responsibilities as required.
  • May act as lead on a specific study activity.
  • Complies with all ethical guidelines for scientific and human subjects research.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Public Health or related field from an accredited school.
  • Epidemiology specialty preferred OR Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program with two or more years of direct experience conducting infectious disease surveillance and epidemiologic analyses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills required.
  • Medical record experience preferred.
  • Database management experience preferred.
  • SAS and/or R experience preferred.
  • Power BI experience desirable.
  • EIP or health department experience desirable.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
