- Establish and maintain an effective learning environment that aligns with the District's normative culture governing student life and conduct. Take necessary actions to support students' learning while maintaining a safe environment.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and establish a clear objective for all lessons, units, and projects. Communicate with students these goals and objectives in a manner that is goal-directed.
- Employ a variety of instructional methods and materials. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and materials to support these instructional methods. Plan and prepare for assigned classes in advance.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes, extra classroom assignments, and other assigned responsibilities in the locations and at the times designated. Accept responsibility for educational activities as assigned.
- Assess individual accomplishments of students on a regular basis. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential student records and provide progress reports as required by law, by District policy, and/or building procedures.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s), teacher assistant(s), and/or student teachers, volunteer(s), and, in cooperation with the principal or his/her supervisory designee, evaluate their job performance.
- Collaborate with colleagues, students, and/or parents as appropriate. Seek the assistance of District specialists where and when available.
- Attend departmental and staff meetings and District professional development as required. Serve on staff committees on a voluntary basis.
- Adjust to have regular communications with parents/guardians.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or District which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
- Knowledge of curricula and concepts in area of certification.
- Knowledge and understanding of normative culture and restorative practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents, community and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
