We are seeking an experienced Senior Lighting Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with our project management team, engineers, architects, general contractors, and owners to deliver complete design-build projects. You’ll direct and coordinate the planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of lighting design projects. You will create lighting layouts, designs, take-offs, and point-by-point calculations for the design, estimation, and implementation of lighting systems.This is a full-time exempt position and reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer of our Preconstruction department. It is based out of our Redmond, WA headquarters and is a fully in-office role, with some flexibility for remote work. Our office is open from 6am-5pm; team members have flexibility with their daily work schedule, based on their needs and the needs of their team and the work.Responsibilities
Lighting
As the Sr. Lighting Specialist, you will be responsible for performing all aspects of detailed specification lighting work including identifying products, creation of fixture schedules, verification of light levels, and addressing watts per square foot requirements, managing several projects concurrently. This requires knowledge of Non-Residential Energy Code (NREC) and correct application of IES Standards.You’re a subject matter expert in lighting, with a high level of knowledge on manufacturers’ products and product application and are adept at creating accurate fixture placement and design layouts. You understand the importance of coordinating with internal and external design teams and trades, and of performing light level calculations, and verifying path of egress and illumination. You have ongoing relations with lighting suppliers and representatives. You’ll have responsibility for procurement including performing takeoff, obtaining and updating final quotes before PO, working with reps for buyout opportunities, completing submittal review process, reviewing factory shop drawings, releasing approved products, coordinating delivery to site (i.e. scheduling) and developing O&M documentation.Additional responsibilities include:
  • Managing the Lighting Controls Specialist and ensuring that specifications are complete and accurate
  • Collaborating with the engineering team and project support staff, as well as architects, clients, and contractors
  • Researching and presenting design options and collecting data to support design decisions
  • Creating submittal packages to confirm system design
  • Assisting with in product selection, development of specifications and contract documents
  • Serve as a technical resource to our internal teams and our external customer base
  • Obtains and interprets technical documents
  • Traveling to jobsites to gather information pre-bid, as well as equipment start up and commissioning post bid
  • Communicating, meeting, and presenting to customers to ensure clear understanding and definition of their needs, to provide project status updates, and to respond to requests or concerns – both verbally and in writing
  • Collaborating with the project management team to provide timely and detailed project data
  • Working with field staff to address troubleshooting on-site
  • Reviewing vendor information and submittals
Lighting Controls
As the Sr. Lighting Specialist, you’ll collaborate with internal and external teams to specify lighting control systems. You’ll research and present lighting and lighting control design options, create submittal packages to confirm lighting and controls system design, and manage project controls from order to completion.Additional responsibilities include:
  • Troubleshooting installed systems
  • Assisting in design of control diagrams
  • Obtaining and interpreting technical documents
  • Developing and submitting a sequence of operations for lighting and lighting control systems
  • Reviewing detailed vendor information and submittals
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the electrical industry performing lighting controls design and calculations, with a strong knowledge base and familiarity of lighting codes, building energy codes, and the NEC.Additional qualifications needed for this role include:
  • Strong working knowledge of Autodesk REVIT, Bluebeam, AutoCAD
  • Strong knowledge of Lutron, nLight/Acuity, Wattstopper, Crestron systems is preferred
  • Experience with conceptual estimating preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
Skills and Abilities
Success in this role requires the ability to interpret construction documents, electrical drawings, specifications, and light fixture cut sheets. The Sr. Lighting Specialist must be knowledgeable about electrical lighting systems within buildings, photometric concepts, power supplies, sensors, and visual performance and comfort as it relates to lighting.Additional skills that will contribute to success in this role include:
  • Strong project management, task management, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in developing photometric studies
  • An understanding of, and ability to discuss lighting and lighting control code information
