WSDOT is currently seeking a Marine Pipefitter Apprentice to perform preventative and emergency repairs for ferry vessels and terminals in accordance with Federal, State, and US Coast Guard (USCG) regulations to support the agency's mission to sustain service reliability and safely transport people and vehicles through the Washington State Ferry's System.What to Expect
This position responds to equipment failures around the clock to sustain service reliability.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Marine Pipefitter Apprentice will:
  • Install, maintain, and repair of vessel plumbing piping systems including, pipes, valves, drains, basins, tubs, toilets, urinals, faucets, lavatories, sinks, and drain lines aboard vessels.
  • Cut, treat, prime, glue, braze, solders, and bend various sizes of pipe and tubing.
  • Installs, maintain, and repair steering systems, steam and condensate systems, boilers system components, compressed air systems, portable and fixed CO2 systems, hydraulics, systems, high and low-pressure hoses, relief and safety valves, firefighting systems, pumps, and pressure vessels such as air bottles, boilers, and tanks.
  • Perform silver braze and soldering (welding).
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • Valid Washington State Driver License.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Respiratory questionnaire as required by the regulatory authority, and annual fit test, which may include the requirement to shave if necessary to obtain a skin-to-rubber seal.
