SUBSTITUTE SECURITY PERSONNELLocation: District-WideHours: Variable/As AssignedRate: $20.00JOB DESCRIPTIONThis position will involve working as a substitute to assist the schools in all aspects of campus safety and school security needs. Substitute is to help maintain an orderly and safe school environment for students and staff.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  • May be required to pass a basic skills test.
  • Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  • Must be available M-F.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED * Ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative, and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees, and management.
  • Ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job-related activities.
  • Ability to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  • Ability to manage unpredictable situations: be flexible, diplomatic, cooperative, and patient, while maintaining enthusiasm and exercising good judgment in difficult situations.
  • Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined, and a self-starter.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution capabilities, ability to collect objective data, diffuse tense situations and mediate conflicts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * AA or BA degree or equivalent in related field.
  • Previous security and/or police related experience within the past three (3) years.
  • Successful experience working with secondary-aged students within the last three (3) years.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES * Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Be a visible presence throughout the campus (including inside buildings, parking lots, and play fields where students congregate) and near campus community areas.
  • Assist in disciplinary actions as requested and/or required.
  • Communicate with principal/administrators about student management issues.
  • Support student discipline procedures, including detention, campus cleanup, and after school intervention.
  • Interact with school Police Student Resource Officer as needed.
  • Work with principal to maintain building policies and procedures.
  • Use strong interpersonal skills to diffuse situations and reduce tension.
  • Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior toward students, staff and parents.
  • Check I.D. badges of people entering the building.
  • Maintain visibility and be immediately available for assisting staff and students in routine and emergency situations.
  • Confront intruders and report all observed violations (trespassers, truants, and law violators) to the appropriate administrator.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff in maintaining a safe, orderly environment for all.
  • Assist in supervising and maintaining order at lunch, after-school activities, dances, and athletic events as assigned.
  • Nurture and give attention to students with special needs.
  • Work effectively within a context with multicultural and at-risk students.
  • Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

  • Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.
  • Senses: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-26 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

  • Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
