JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides working level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic.JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under limited supervision, serve as principal field consultant to the District Construction Engineer, supervising the staff of a District Materials Investigation Unit. Make determinations regarding immediate solutions to various construction and maintenance problems pertaining to various soils, bases and other materials. Provide verbal and written communication to contractors, department personnel, city, county and state officials, and the general public regarding district materials investigation. Demonstrate considerable knowledge of all applicable guidelines, specifications, and procedures, as they apply to materials investigation. This position will also operate the district road profiler vehicle in performing pavement roughness evaluations.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:· Experience performing mix designs from soil-cement and/or aggregates.· Lead worker or Supervisory experience· Working knowledge of materials specifications and standards.· Demonstrated ability to supervise the staff of a district materials investigation unit, including the road surface profiler, necessary competencies to plan, supervise, train and evaluate the work of subordinates.· Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with construction and maintenance personnel, subordinates and contractors, local officials and property owners to make sound well-informed decisions.· Knowledge of sources and types of material to read, understand and interpret plans, sketches, location maps, test data and other written materials related to materials investigation.· Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to material investigation.· Demonstrated ability to write reports and correspondence.· Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve conflicts.· Demonstrated ability to efficiently learn and apply new knowledge on the job.· Demonstrated experience using computers and computer applications to analyze and communicate highway construction information· Possesses the ability to be open to changes and new information, changing conditions and unexpected obstacles.· Possesses the ability to display high standards of ethical conduct.· Possesses the ability to provide a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment toward completing assignments in a timely manner with minimal supervision.· Possesses the physical strength, agility and memory necessary to perform the core responsibilities of the job.· Possesses the ability to recognize opportunities to help the organization accomplish its objectives.· Committed to providing quality customer service.· Bachelor's degree in a related field and Six months of related experience OR Associate's degree in a related field and One year of experience OR One year of at position equivalent.AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:· One or more years of demonstrated experience in the area of the advertised vacancy.· Demonstrated experience to design new methods where established methods and procedures are inapplicable or unavailable.· Demonstrated experience to influence and negotiate with property owners and local government officials.· Demonstrated experience to visualize the progression of work leading to a completed project based upon project detail in plans and description of work.· Knowledge of the Materials Certification process.IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBSThe interview is just one part of the overall selection process and is not the only criteria used to make the final selection.
